KISS Holding tank & head installation

Check the photos link for photos of the head/holding tank installation on Whisper. The
head is a Blake Lavac, vacuum style. The holding tank was purchased through Boat Depot,
14 gallons, part number RH-B238. It came as a closed tank so we installed the fittings
where they worked out best for the system. We plan on adding some wood trim in front to
hide the tank. We followed the KISS system, which was posted on this group a week or so
ago. Basically, water comes in through the inlet, up a vented, siphon loop, into the head.
Waste water is pumped out with the manual pump, into the holding tank, and then if the
seacock is open, it goes out of the boat (the holding tank is above the water line, so
gravity empties the tank), if the seacock is closed, it stays in the holding tank until
pumped out. The total cost of the project was approximately $500 or so for all supplies
(toilet, tank, hoses, clamps, seacocks, etc.). We haven't tried pumping out yet, but so far
the system seems to be working great. Well, at least it isn't stinky...yet...

Look in the photo album under the album "head & holding tank" posted by millerkm81.

Yes, we're in Pasadena, MD, on Rock Creek just off the Patapsco River.

I too went with the Lavac but since I'm in the Great Lakes i didn't
rig the discharge option. I think I have the exact same tank but
installed mine under the V Berth--just barely fit. did have a bit of
trouble with the vent tube clogging up--not at all a pretty sight!

Have pumped out 2xs now and everything seems to be working fine.
Haven't yet determined exactly how much each flush needs nor how many
pumps work best.
