Didn't get much of a response from last post so trying again. Need to replace my two Deep Cycle main bank batteries, and have always used Kirkland ones before. Anyone with endorsements/better choices out there?

Not really sure who is making the Kirkland batteries at this point. Likely Johnson Controls or Deka/East Penn. If you can post a photo of a group 27 deep cycle or group 31 deep cycle I may be able to give more input as to the manufacturer.

That said a battery is generally only as good as its care. I have seen $2000.00 AGM banks destroyed in under two years and expensive Trojans destroyed in under two years yet I have seen el-cheapo banks go 8-10... Care and feeding IMHO is a lot more important than brand provided you are using deep cycle to deep cycle...

I've currently got a $2200.00 bank of "premium" batteries in my shop that lasted less than 4 seasons and a $160.00 bank of no-name 6V's that lasted 9 years......

Kirkland

I have a pair of Group 27 Kirkland batteries that I have been using for the past five years. I equalize them for four hours once each season and they are still going strong. During the summer, I keep them on a smart charger at the dock and draw them down some when we stay out at anchor, but never for more than 24 hours. They sit in my heated garage all winter (not on a charger) and don't seem to loose much charge after 3 - 4 months. They consume almost no water either on or off season. I'd have to check their labels, but I think they are the deep cycle/starter type rather than the true deep cycle. I believe they cost me around $70 each and I would buy Kirkland again if these ever die.

I bought 3 of the Kirkland "Deep Cycle/Starting" batteries at the beginning of last season to replace the 2 4D AGM batteries that were shot. I spent around $270.00 vs around $900.00 for 2 4Ds. So far I am satisfied with Kirklands. I figure that if I get 3 seasons out of them, I would have to get 9 seasons from the 4Ds to equal the price.

I had 2 of the Kirkland "Deep Cycle/Starting" batteries and just replaced them after four years. Worked perfectly until the last month or so and had to replace. Like previous post, I'm not sure who makes them but they work very well for much less price.
