Hunter 25.5 Ossining
I'll be leaving from ,Ossining . Just wondering how long , if there is any place to drop a hook or may be moore. I have a 25.5Hunter, with a 4 1/2 foot draft, 8 hp 4 stroke kicker, and should I inflate my dinge ( with 1 1/2 hp air cooled kicker) I do have a GPS on board. I haven't ever used my stove, what kind of stores should I stock up on.I will stock up on the beer , as it does prevent dehydration. I would like to make this a 5 to 7 day trip. My sister in-law has a place that she keeps in roundout creek( planning to visit her for a couple of days) Any comments would be a help. Thank you

Trip to Kingston

I have a Hunter 290, and I keep my boat at the Haverstraw Maria, on the Hudson. It generally takes us 7 to 8 hours to get up the Kingston. I always try to plan the trip, so that I get the current going the way I want, otherwise it can be a 10 plus hour trip.

As a sidebar to the original question, is there a Pilot or Crusing Guide to the Hudson River available? It would be a great help in planning any trips up and down the river.

Thanks ,I was thinking about 10 to 12 hours myself. I was going to leave about 6:00 am , watching for a nice window of good weather and I'll be gone. How long of a trip do you may it?

Yes there is a crusing guide available, as I have one, but it is on the boat. It is not published by Maptech and is not widely available. I do not recall where I actually bought it.

If it is the one I am thinking of, it is published by some company in Vermont, and includes the Hudson River, and Lake Champlain.

Also, A CRUISING GUIDE TO THE NEW ENGLAND COAST includes the Hudson River up to the Troy lock.

Thank you guys, My honey and I went to Kingston . It took us about 10 1/2 hrs ,no breeze at all. We stayed for two days, the first day relaxing. The next day, we did some sailing with my sister in-law.(They have a little place up the Roundout Creek).

The day we left, It way raining heavy all morning, it stopped around 9:00AM. The water was very choppy, weather was very damp and chilly. But it only took us ten hours to get home (home port) What killed me the most ,was motoring all the way up and back. We went through fourteen gallons of gas.
We did have one scary momment though. There's a Lighthouse ,you have to watchout for, it's called Esopus Creek Lighthouse. When traveling north , you must keep it on your Port side. Lucky for us it was high tide, we were on the port side of the lighthouse(looking at the bouys,I thought I was doing good) There was a big drag , we slowed down almost to a stop. But she managed to keep going . I looked at the GPS , and saw that at low tide it's only two foot deep. I guess I'll have to do a better job, plotting our course. But all in all we had a great trip
