Rudder Question- I can beach my O'DAY 20, but must first remove the outboard rudder from the transom and place it with tiller attached into the cockpit. This makes for a very awkward, heavy, and dirty operation each time. Is there any way to convert my rudder to one that kicks up. Or is there a replacement rudder available that would work? Thanks, Ray Hornyak

Good question

Hi, Thanks for your question. Several of the Hunter models have a rudder that kicks up in the head. This seems like a good design. The housing is attached to the boat and the rudder kicks up inside the housing. At present we only handle rudders. I have been considering having some sizes of the housings made up to sell. You may be able to go to a machine shop near you and have something made up. Thanks again, Al Walker Foss Foam

I have the same dilema.

I just bought an older 20' Oday and one thing that I wasn't thrilled about was the rudder not "kicking up." I previously owned an Oday Mariner which had a kick up rudder. So I am interested in knowing what you find out and how you deal with this problem. I tried to switch rudders with my compac 16, but that didn't work. Where can you perchase rudders that fit an Oday 20? I am also looking for a new/used mail sail for the Oday 20. I will let you know if I come across any rudder info. Thanks, Kathryn

Waiting in Williston

Kathryn, This is Al Walker for Foss Foam. We are located in Williston (about 15 minutes away). Why don't you bring your rudder by so that I can take a look at it. Maybe we can help. Sincerely Al Walker Foss Foam
