Kholer 8eoz thermostat location

Were in the Bahamas and our Jenny on our passage 456 shut down. On inspection I found coolant in the basin under the Jenny. I traced the leak to a worn spot on a coolant hose at the heat exchanger. I repaired that and refilled coolant and on restart it shut down again. I was told to check for air in system so I opened the drain at bottom of heat exchanger and I took cap off the coolant tank and ran the engine.. It still is overheating. I would like to find the thermostat to check that but I don't know where it's located. Also any suggestions on how to confirm fresh water pump is working? I ask because when the engine shuts down temps are around 200 plus and coolant hoses on top of engine are very hot but I felt both the coolant hoses attached to heat exchanger and there hardly warm if not cool. These are large coolant hoses like radiator hoses not the raw water hoses. So I question if coolant is even circulating. Thanks for any ideas

You can find the service manual here:

You should be able to find the thermostat location and troubleshooting info In it. In most cases to fill an engine that has been drained of coolant you run it under lite to no load after filling with coolant. With the pressure cap off watch fluid level and adding additional coolant until it stabilizes just under the overflow tube. Then put the pressure cap on.

Here is the cooling system and part numbers.
Part #27 the thermostat.
I would also replace part #43, the hidden Zinc anode. Pencil type Zinc that should be changed every 500 hours.

Your seawater discharge should be very close to the Genset and above the water line. You should see water "spitting" if you sea water flow it good. This is the key to cooling. No sea water flow in first 30 seconds then that is the issue.

Part# 42 is your sea water to Coolant heat exchanger. It could be fouled and not getting enough cooling.

My guess is your sea water pump impeller Part#71 is worn. See next post for picture.
Jim...

PS: I have the 9kw Kohler.

Since I just replaced impeller on sea water pump and observe good water flow from exhaust at waterline I doubt if it's the sea water issue. Got to be coolant related or something worse like cracked head ?
