i have a key on push button starter and would like to switch to just turn key and engin would start. did anyone make this change over. i have a 1985 GM- 20 diesel in HUNTER 28.5

Yanmars GM series do not use glow plugs. I fail to see the benefits for such a modification but it should not be to difficult. Look for a marine ignition switch with recoil, drill a larger hole in the panel and connect the wires securely to the correcponding terminals. Some of these switches come with the push to choke contacts but they can be left unused. My only concern is the protection of the recoil switch against the elements.
I replaced the defective yanmar key switch
I replaced the defective not dependable yanmar key switch. Found a solid brass marine automotive style at O'reallys auto Parts. About 25 bucks. Now I can start yanmar by just a turn of the key or if I feel like some pain I turn key to the on position listen for beep and then I can try and contort a finger up under the plexiglass cover to push old yanmar start button. New Key switch much easier and better quality then the one that yanmar stuck on the panel.
