Survey work
Rick, there are any number of times that you might consider a survey or have to have your boat surveyed. Definitely, if you are buying a boat. I have done a number of surveys for people after the fact becasue they "knew" the boat only to find significant problems and the headaches that come with it. Now it seems many insurance companies are asking for surveys if the boat is 10 years old. Over 20 years old they want the boat hauled for a complete hull inspection. I have had a number of people who have bought their own boat back from the insurance company after it was totaled for some reason, had it fixed or fixed it themselves and needed it to be surveyed for inurance purpuses. Some people will have a brand new boat surveyed just to make sure that everything okay. That there are no voids or problems in the lay-up of the glass or the deck/hull joint is good etc. etc.Damage claims with an insurance company will usually be looked at by surveyor that is hired by the insuance compay to make an initial survey and depending on the extent of the damage do some follow up.Charlie
