hello ken, I have never had a kerosine stove so I only THINK they operate like the alcohol stove. Pump them 15 or 20 strokes put two tablespoons of alcohol ( I think because the alcohol is less messy or burns hotter ) in the depression at the base of the burner, set it on fire to pre heat the tube, then, when it goes out open the burner valve and light it. I would do all this outside the boat if possible john
