Hi Everyone, Had an interesting problem with the Kenyon butane stove model B23006 (single bunner) which comes on several of the Hunter boats. When placing a new butane canister into the stove my wife heard a hissing sound and didn't think much of it until she hit the ignite. Heard a whump sound and then flames shot up around the tea kettle. Didn't take much for me after that scream, to be by her side placing a towel over the stove and turning the stove OFF and then pulling the canister out. For a few seconds the flames got worst but was able to put out the fire with the towel. NO DAMAGE - lost a little hair on the arm but needed to shave anyway. What I found was that the rubber gasket on the black cansiter cover was compressed enough were the can bottom meets the knob to allow the cansiter not to seat completely. This allowed butane to be released and collect to a dangerous level very quickly. If she had not started the stove immediately we might not be here! Sobbering thought. Called Kenyon and they said they had a glue problem which allowed the rubber gasket to slide around which would cause this problem. They are sending a new knob! I imagine everyone with one of these stoves should check to insure it puts positive pressure on the can to seat it. Jim "I don't want to go to the Moon YET!" S/V Java

Hello Jim

We found in the manual that came with ours that there is a need to but some lubrication on the rubber packing inside the cap every so often. I guess to prevent it from coming loose when turning against the back of the cannister. When ever we put a cannister in there is the sound of gas escaping for a split second. The problem we have with our stove is that after only a few (perhaps ten times) it would not stay alight. As a matter of interest as soon as we finish heating up water or whatever and turn off the stove we remove the cannister and store in the over head locker. The thought of her going up with a bang is pretty scary. Although there is a pipe that leads through the hull from the stove I guess to disperse any leakes. Regards from the wild West?

Same problem?

I've had a similar problem, I guess. After I turn the knob to off, the canister still continues to hiss and the flame continues to burn. So I have had to pull the can out while the flame is roaring... Not a pretty sight. Consequently, I have not used my stove in some time. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'll check out the knob this weekend. Happy sailing!
