My Compac 23 laughs at 4 feet.

Seriously, that is a cool place to go through. I hope that they get it cleaned back up again. It is a great way to cut some time off when you are coming from the North Bay to the Choptank River.

Those of us who sail the Chesapeake Bay are so blessed with such a great cruising area.

I will be floating around the bay for three weeks in May, starting May 16. I hope to see a few of you all around there.

My 5'6" draft is laughed at by 4 feet--even 5 feet has its way with us. I'd be very interested in Knapps. We didn't go through there at all last year because of shoaling.

Anything over 5 feet in the bay is too much draft. Too many shallow places. No matter what your draft is, you will find the bottom at some point. Still, the shallower the better. I draft 2.5'

The exact reason I sail swing keels... :) 1 foot 9 inches... :) with the keel up. Even if I ground hard.... I can step off the transom and push the boat off.

Been there.... done that.

You would be surprised how many people never think of getting off the boat and pushing it off a shoal. Probably the same number of people who feel they have to stand behind the wheel when docking.

I think it was last year or the year before they switched a marker from Port side to starboard side and we found 5 feet minimum. It is a very useful short cut that shoals frequently. Look forward to hearing from other cruisers how it is this year.
