Hello All,
Have a trip planned that will involve the infamous Kent Narrows channel. Just realized that I haven't talked to anyone who has transversed it recently.
Has anyone any current information on the channel depths?
Thank you.

Larry,

A question: This comes up so regularly it's almost as much fun as "what's the best anchor?" :)

What is it about this stretch of water that requires such a regular request?

I also would like to know if you have checked in with Active Captain, which is so, well, uhm, active about these very issues.

Beware the affects of the full moon this week. :):):)

It is a highly used route that shallows frequently. It connects the north bay with the east bay.
Maybe over a long cold winter I can figure out Active Captain.

Larry, thanks, now I understand.

AC? Just like signing up for this forum. Free & easy. Any specific problems you have? Let me know what they are. I don't. Forget the eCard stuff, just glance at the reviews. If there are any.;)

Will do.
I should also mention that the channel markers are often wrong. Two years ago the deepest part was on the wrong side of the marker while the area between the two markers was about four feet. Last year a lone fixed mark was missing its square or was it a triangle?

The markers in the Kent Narrows North Channel are back to normal, the way they are used to be. No more temporary floating markers.Stay as much as possible in the middle of the channel. Shallow areas are after the 3&4 markers and at the 5&6 markers.I don't know what the MLW is because I draw 6' and will only attempt to pass through the channel at High Tide +- 2 hours.

Unless the NW wind is blowing strong the water depth should be 6' or more. The last 2 weeks we had the SSW blowing strong and pushing the water up north. This should hold through the weekend, unless a low pressure front comes through. Be aware there is also a hump with very shallow depth just north of the drawbridge entrance, right under the high route 50/301 bridge. I got stuck there and it took me a few minutes to get off. The bridge operator was nice enough to hold the bridge open for me.The bridge operator requests to be called on channel 13 just 3 minutes before the opening at the hour and 1/2 hour.

Some years ago we had a mishap at Kent Narrows, we had lost the mast on our trailer boat (Starwind 223) and lost the propeller to our outboard when we shifted the engine into neutral after getting through. We called towboat US and they sent us "Toe Jam" to the rescue. Luckily we had a spare propeller and were able to find a nut and used a bent nail as a cotter pin. Some panic ensued when we did not see a spare back spacer for the prop but luckily it had remained attached to the shaft. I just got a kick at the name of the towboat. Oh forgot to mention that on that day there must have been a go-fast boat rally as the speed boats were lined up in waterside restaurants with the radios blaring and girls dancing on deck. We were entertained while waiting for Toe Jam.

Yes, that is a weekly occurrence at "Red Eye Dock Bar". Quite the show...(from what I've heard of course)

Glad to report that the Narrows is in good shape. At high tide there was 6 feet between north side markers five and six and again at the south end entrance. The rest was 8-9 feet. I could not find the hump under the fixed bridge. They even have all the markers in place this year. Icing on the cake... we arrived just in time to follow the last waiting boat thru.
