Cape Cod - Sen. Edward Kennedy's schooner, The Mya, was freed from sand and shallow water off Cold Storage Beach early Monday morning. Beached yesterday, the Kennedy schooner Mya was pulled to safety today with little, if any apparent damage. According to Dennis police Capt. William Monahan, the boat ran aground Sunday afternoon in strong winds and rough seas. Karl Anderson and John Sheehan of Karl's Boat Shop in Harwich, told police they lost control of the vessel while trying to reach Sesuit Harbor.Sen. Kennedy made an early morning visit see his boat which ran aground yesterday in seven-foot waves and strong winds near Cold Storage Beach. bystanders said. The boat, usually moored in Hyannis Harbor, is left late in the water for a Thanksgiving weekend cruise, a tradition among the Kennedy family. Yesterday the two crew brought the schooner through the Cape Cod Canal to the Northside Marina in Sesuit Harbor in East Dennis where it is stored for the winter.The worry was that the battering waves would damage the wooden schooner, in the family for about 20 years. But this morning, there were only a few scrapes on the schooner's bottom and no apparent damage to the keel and hull.
