Keeping in marina?

Are there any special considerations -- pro or con -- in planning to keep a MacGregor26 in the water at a slip? I am concerned about problems with the water ballast system. Are there any problems emptying the system while motoring?

Several Tips

So far I've not had any problems leaving the water in while docked. I've kept my boat in the water for over a year. One thing that you may what to do from time to time is add a few small clorine tablets directly into the tank to help prevent the mold and mildew from building up. Another thing to do to help take the strain off of the swing keel is to keep it in the up position while at the dock. I can't help you with the system emptying question, since I've never tried it while motoring.

Water Ballast Emptying Under Power

For Nick Of Fort Myers, Fla. It takes approximately 8 minutes to empty the water ballast on my 26X. I find that a moderate speed will suck the tank dry. You will know when the tank is empty, as the boat planes more readily, and you can tell by handling. Word to the wise...,Use caution, when closing inlet valve, under power, as a sudden swell or wave can prove to be an unwelcome surprise. Good Sailing!!
