Keeping Cool

Does anyone have experience with the Davis "Sail Windscoop" (2002 Boat U.S. pg 500) or the West Marine "Down-the-Hatch Ventilating Sail" (2002 West Marine pg 548)? Both seem like a good idea, specially when not pointed into wind while at a slip. I have never seen one in use, and am wondering why not. Other "keep the cabin cool" suggestions are also appreciated. Thanks

Wind Scoops

They work fairly well. We used ours when the A/C went out. It's never going to take the place of A/C, but as long as you know that you're okay. It's the same as opening the windows in your house on a hot day..... Ron/KA5HZV

Cool cabin

We have, and use, both wind scoop "down the hatch" items you mention. They both work great (especially while on-the-hook). Makes for a nice breeze throughout the boat. Other ideas: We have TWO 12-volt fans that oscilate and keep things cool (one on the main salon and one in the V). Easy to install and make for excellent sleeping conditions. Of course, if you can close your curtains before the sun gets too hot, you can keep the cabin coooler. Or, just sit on a bag of ice. This REALLY will keep you cool. Keep in mind, I'm in Upstate NY ... not Texas.

Works well on 23.5

One of the first items I purchased for my 23.5 was a Windscoop. I still have it 10 years later. It sometimes works too well, blowing things like playing cards and chrts around the cabin. Mike Pajewski H23.5 "Summer Rental" H26 "Loon"
