I always preach never to put your fingers between the hitch and ball when putting the hitch onto the ball. After all these years, I did and it nearly took my finger off. Even the best of us screw up once in a while. Just remember, keep your pinkie out of the hitch when going onto the ball. A customer came by and I was dancing around. Dave, most railway speeders or motor cars were sold off by the railroads in the early 70's when the use of "hi-rail" vehicles" (automobiles, pick-ups and maintenance trucks equipped with additional sets of flanged wheels which could be raised for highway travel and lowered to the rail head for railway travel) became wide spread. There are organizations throughout the country that have as members private owners of the speeders/carts and a sizeable business has evolved in the sale of parts for restoration.Additionally, they have made arrangements with some railroads to have rendevous or owners meets featuring operation over specific routes.
