hi again.....when i bought my cherubnini27 last weekend it has a shoal keel....however i could have bought the same boat(1977)with a longer fin keel.did i make the right choice?

It depends on where you are sailing. I think that if you want sneak across the sandbars into some secluded cove in Baie de Chaleurs, or head up the Miramachi River, you probably made the right choice.

I owned a 1980 27 foot Cherubini with the longer fin keel and in 5 years never experienced any problems in getting where I wanted to go in the Maritimes. The difference in draw between the two keels is slight.

ok thanks but i also was wondering if there was a different handling...with the shoal keel,do i heel quicker?

Shoal/Fin Keel

You shouldn't see a great deal of difference in handling either, aside from maybe a quicker indication of weather helm as she tries to slide off the wind. All things being equal unless you're really pushing hard to wind, her point of sail isn't going to vary much.

Shoal draft doesn't point as well

But that is the only difference. Ours is not at all tender compared to the full keel version.
