keel winch handle

I have a 1979 SKTR. The handle keeps popping off of the winch when I'm trying to raise the keel. Is this common? Is there a fix? Does a new winch offer a better way of securing the handle to the winch?

e- clip missing

AlanIt sounds like your e-clip is missing. It fits in a grove at the end of the threads. I've used wire in a pinch. I also put a ss finder washer becouse I could'nt find a large e-clip. Hope this helps.Frank

I drilled a hole and put on a large washer and cotter pin. Haven't had any trouble since.
