I have had quite a few people ask me for pictures of the keel repair on Sula
I thought the keel was damaged when she was moved from Troon to Liverpool on a lorry.
The keel dripped from the middle from the moulding mark. Someone said the Vega is made in 2 half's this is true
the deck and the hull. Not port and starboard.
The moulding mark it where they split the mould after making the hull.
The keel on sula was cracked on the starboard side and although the water dripped out of the middle. The crack
was right on the edge and was a good 18 inches to 2ft long.
The way the repaired it was to grind down to 1mm thick fibreglass at the crack and the 2mm 50mm up then 3mm
100mm and so on. so it gives you a deep looking bit at the crack then travels out until it gets back to thickness.
They did this so the could put a piece of mat over the crack then a piece over that then a piece over that. So
there is no lump at the repair.
They told me the put 12 layers of mat on it.
They did this to both sides of the keel so they can put a u shaped piece in for strength.
