I am buying a 72 catalina, is there a way I can inspect the keel pin and cable without much trouble. Are there any other critical parts I should inspect.R7RR@aol.com

Keel Pin Inspection

While the boat sits on the trailer, you can try to move the front part of the keel side-to-side and up and down. You could use a pry bar or similar for leverage. Any movement would indicate some pin wear. The more movement, the more the pin wear. As far as the cable, you could unravel the cable from the winch, pulling the cable out underneath the hull. You should be able to get about 6-8 ft of cable. As you go, you can check for bad areas.Regards,Ted

1970's Upgrades

Rick, Catalina Direct has a list of aftermarket upgrades they suggest for C22's from the 1970's (like mine). Their list of upgrades would also make a good list of items that should be checked. Examples include upgrades to stronger spreaders. My 1977 had many of those upgrades already.
