Has anyone any experience or advice regarding the possibility of adding wings to the keel of a T26 columbia (1974 vintage). I want to inprove the poor tacking into the wind. I feel that because of the shallow shoal keel that there is too much side slipage, not enough "lift" and that wings could stablize this by providing a vertical element when heeled over to prevent this slipping. If it is possible how long should they be fore to aft (perhaps 3'?), how long out from the boat (perhaps 1'?), and what angle from plumb (eg. perhaps 70 degrees up??). And how could one attach them? is the keel, what there is of it. solid steel, fibreglass encased steel. Would drilling through to attach SS steel wings (best metal??) with bolts or would this risk leaks? so what do you all say??
