Terminology
Actually, O'Day called their centerboard version a shoal keel with a centerboard. The boat sails OK with the centerboard completely up. Of course, dropping it improves the performance sailing upwind. It's funny that the terminology threw you that direction. After owning an O'Day 25 for three years, I went to purchase a Coronado 35 with a shoal keel, and was surprised to find that it DIDN'T have a centerboard. Same confusion as you, but from the "other direction."Interestingly, apparently using a centerboard for "shoal keel" boats was a common enogh practice back then (my Coronado is a '71 model, and the O'Day is a '74), that Coronado explained in their manual why they didn't use a centerboard. The main reason I was able to understand what was being asked here was that I recognized the picture as being "normal" for the boat, so I knew what the measurements should have been.
