I just purchased a 1974 Olympic Dolphin 23 and I need to replace the swing keel. However I need a measured drawing so I can get a machine shop to build it. Part of the swing keel is rusted beyond repair. Thanks

Not sure but a company called Mars Metals made many of the keels for various manufacturers. It is worth a try calling them and they are located in Canada. It would have helped to see a photo of that keel to see how it was built

IIRC your boat has a cast iron keel (with a bulb-like foot) that pivots out of a slot in the fixed shoal keel. The piece has some fairly critical dimensions and would be rather challenging to fabricate from scratch. I image the cost would be several times the value of the boat, even with the new keel.

Mars works only in lead.

I have some original brochures for that boat with line drawings, but nothing with exact measurements. I have made up missing keels like this in the past and one must might have to start out with a piece of plywood that fits into the keel trunk and trim away at it until you get the shape you want, the pivot hole established and the location of the pennant to raise and lower it. From that pattern you can built one out of plate steel and epoxy it on the outside. They came in a fixed fin keel version or a swing keel version. The draft on the swing keel model was 2' to 3'9" and the weight of the centerboard keel was 1,000 lbs. The fin keel model was 3'6" deep and the weight was 800 lbs. The Dolphin MK III is 22'9" LOA, 20'6" LWL, 7'3" BEAM. Built by Olympic Yachts LTD out of Montreal Quebec CA.

Mars Metals said they didn't make that keel is there another company who may have made it.

rlawson1 - how did this play out? I just bought this same boat and when dropping the swing keel, the wire snapped and I lost the swing keel. Now I need to figure out how to get a replacement. Thank you for any and all help!
