We have a 1990 Hunter 33.5 (with an iron keel). We we bought it in the spring of 1999, there was some gap at parts of the joint of keel and hull. The yard sanded the area all around the joint (360 Degrees) scrapped out any joint compound near the outer surface and then did a "belly band" 5 layer wrap. The wrap consisted of - West Epoxy - F.G. cloth - West Epoxy - F.G. Cloth - West Epoxy. After full curing, that was sanded down and the faired. Today, 13 years later, it still looks to be in great shape - you cannot see where the joint is. I have annually wire brushed and sanded some small areas on the keel where there was rust. I then applied 2 coats of Pettit Rust-Lok followed by 2 coats of Anti-Fouling Paint. It would have been better to sand blast the whole keel and the applier Rust-Lok and AF Paint.
