Keel Bolts

Does anyone know when the keel bolts for a C&C 33-2 (1985) are best torqued, on the hard or while afloat? I have no record of when this was last
accomplished so it's on my to-do list. My boat does not have the infamous C&C smile so on the surface things appear OK.

Torque specs are usually based on fastener size.

That said here are the specs from C&C 30 Owners Manual.

(I assume the specs are the same. To be 100% sure I would check your owners manual. If you don't have a manual,. Someone on the C&C owners mailing list should be able to help you get a copy)

1/2 Inch = 80 lbs
3/4 Inch = 250 lbs
1 Inch = 350 lbs
1.25 Inch = 400 lbs

An inquiry to MarsKeel, the moulder of C&C's keels, produced the following:

"Regarding the bolt torque, here are the specs based on bolt size:
1/2" - 90 ft. lbs. ,
3/4" - 250 ft.lbs. ,
1" - 350 ft. lbs.

Please be careful in tightening as if the bolts are fatigued based on age
this should be taken into consideration.
