Upon critical examination of my keel bolts it appears as if the bolts are in good shape but the nuts are badly rusted and should be replaced. So has anyone done this? If so is there anything I should be aware of, and how can I find replacement nuts.

Rust?

I've been watching this question to see what the experts say. I took one of my keel nuts off so I could properly size a socket(deep) at Sears. A few of mine can be turned with a wrench. But they were perfectly shiny after 20 years. I'd take one with me to the biggest West Marine or BoatUS near you. I know our store would have them. I loosened one or two at time, put lots of 3M sealant under the washer, and tightened them down. This was preventative, I did not have any leaks(that I know of).
