Motor sailed 1980 Hunter under time restraints from Fla to Mobile Bay with trans in forward. God and good luck got us there in 42 hours. PO had said boat had some water in side, looks like about 11 or 12 inches. Trans shifted out of forward and I was unable to get it in reverse or forward. Replaced frozen shift cable and filled tranny with new fluid. All leaked out. Need to pull trans anyway. New? Rebuild? or Used?

Re: KBW10 Transmission for Yanmar 2gm15 Replace, rebuild or

they are pretty simple boxes, and if you can get the parts, I would rebuild. I do not have much confidence in an unknown "rebuild" especially if you do not know who rebuilt it. I would have a reputable mechanic do it. New is nice, but very expensive. Used is just a rebuild away ....and the expense is really in the too and fro and allignment, again.

I would make sure to use the correct trans fluid and change it yearly.

Best of luck

There is a service manual here under boat info downloads for the 2QM15 engine/transmission. If you have time it may be worth the effort to try and fix it.
