Does anyone have any leads on where to purchase a storage cover for an Ocean Kayak model Malibu 2 sit on top kayak. I want to leave it stored on deck so I'm primarily concerned about UV protection. You would think with all of these sold the manufacturer would have it as an accessory but not so. I was trying to avoid a custom cover from a canvas store. Maybe I like to take care of my toys to well but if you've left yours exposed to the sunlight how has it faired? Thanks Frank

Frank, get a bottle of 303, spray it on the kayak and wipe it off. they call it "spf40 sun screen for your stuff". it works! Don't get any on your decks though---makes them slick!!! fair winds----tom

I use 303 too, but sailors should sew.

I keep my plastic boats in the shade when I can and rub them down with a 303 soaked rag once or twice a year. A canvas cover would work well too. Thats just another reason all sailors should sew. Duck canvas is not that expensive and it lasts a long time in the sun. The cheapest machine at Sears goes on sale for $100 every so often. That and some fabric and some V 69 Sail thread will get you started. O and get the biggest needles for sewing canvas. Size 18 or 20 make it easier. Frank

UV Protectant

It's similar to products like Armour All for your car except it doesn't leave that oily film and seems to be better from a UV standpoint. You can get it at West Marine. One use I've found for it is to repel the dust that is usually atracted to the finished fiberglass on the interoir. It's great on the vinyl windows in a dodger too.
