I was talking with a owner of two JY 14's that he has used only a couple of times on each. After the first one split from bow to stern along the gunwale he thought the person that used it last filled it with water some how and must of pulled it out on the trailer full to cause the crack. So he wrote it off as that. He had me look at the damage and fixing it doesn't seem possible. So I took the other on out with him. Sailed it a couple of times and took it out last night and guess what. The starboard side is cracked exactly the same as the other from bow to stern. Does hunter have a problem with the materials? Is this happening to anyone? And what is the process hunter recommends to fix these new material boats? Any help greatly appreciated.

Cracks in JY's/small Hunters

There are problems with small cracks forming in the ACP process used to build these boats. My '99 Hunter 170 has a couple hairline cracks in its deck, but have never heard of stem to stern. Contact JY Boats up in East Lyme, CT. They have always been super responsive to my questions. Best of luck. Mike G. s/v Lil Sport- Alachua, FL

know your 146

XrayPete, Add a microblock to end of boom and pull yellow (outhaul)line through the block and back foreward toward bow. On the (port)side of the boom there is a jam cleat near the boom vang. Pull outhaul line through jam cleat - it should lock. Until you have a microblock you can pull the outhaul line through the loop at he end of the boom and on through to the jam cleat. This loop may tend to cut into line without block.
