My wife and I had an anniversary over the weekend. Honest to God, she bought an anchor and a chain (and the rode, too) for my present! So when we took it over to the boat yesterday and replaced the old one, I was pretty shocked. For the first time since we bought the boat about 3 years ago, I noticed the chain link attached to the shackle (on the old anchor) was corroded to the point where it wasn't much thicker than a heavy duty paper clip. I couldn't believe that I hadn't noticed it before! *yks We don't use the anchor much except to go swimming, but we do frequently anchor at our friends house and go ashore on an island which can be one of the windier locations on the lake. Last weekend we anchored there with gusts over 20 knots. If it broke free there we could have ended up on a rocky shoreline or banging into somebodies boat on a dock. Right now I am really glad she got me an anchor! I can't believe I missed this for so long (I must have always focused on the link from the chain to the rode). I generally feel like I'm pretty watchful for things that are deteriorating but this time I narrowly missed a bad situation!

She's a keeper!

ANy woman who would buy her guy an anchor setup is special. Be good to her! ;)

Better still

Would be if she asked for an anchor as a gift to her for your anniversary. I guess then you would be compelled to spend big on one of the stainless steel ones that look like jewelry hanging from the bow roller. Just hope she doesn't ask for one on your 50th (golden anniversary), that could get really pricey.

Take the hint you idiot

Yep, she's a keeper and that was a great idea, but you better take the hint and buy her a nice anchor necklace. And if you want to keep a positive trend I would go ahead and buy the matching eyerings!

Reminds me of the time....

We have a guy in our department that bought his wife a weedeater for her birthday. Why he is still alive and married to the same woman I will never. know. For Christmas, I got a floating key chain, one of those flashlights that you shake to light, and a kestral wind meter. Now there's a wife who really listens.

That's Scarey, Scott, but...

... one can can only wonder what else there is lurking around on our boats that is an accident waiting to happen. As our boats age, so does everything on them. Thanks for posting this because hopefully it'll get us all to be more observant and look for things that could go wrong. Oh, and I agree, I think you've got a keeper!

Marcia, and....

... if I view the picture correctly, do you go up the mast too???? Looks like another keeper! By the way, I really like the photo - nice colors, content/subject matter, and should be in a magazine somewhere. Looks like a headset for communication?

There was a day....

.. when I bought Kelli new sails on her b-day for a couple yrs. I've paid dearly for what seemed like such a practical gift at the time. ????What...it's not just what you wanted for us to be happier??? Then there was the kayak and (true story)the compound bow(OMG in retrospect that was really crazy). Many diamonds later I'm still alive and much better trained;). Michael

I'll keep her ...

as long as she keeps me! :) Dave, she has two sisters that probably will never buy their husbands an anchor. Sue comes up with some really great gifts because she knows what I like. For humor, though, this one tops them all! She said, "close your eyes", and then she dragged the chain across the floor ... I had no idea what to think! *o
