Went sailing last night. Low 70s, so i bundled up by putting on socks. Light winds, but they died just about sunset, which was beautiful. Winter sailing in FL is the best.

Killing me

You are killing me watching you out on the Water but a few more months of PT for my shoulder and I will be back out sailing for sure.
Now I know why those northern sailors want to kill you.

Well you southern folks might get to sail all Winter but us Northerners have to find other ways to recreate. My personal favorite is this...

I am going down to my own (new for me) boat and spend the day tinkering around and sleep on board overnight. Temp is supposed to be 36-39 tonight.
6:37 is sunrise on Sunday, so I will make some coffee, hit the head and the showers, warm up the outboard and go on my first solo sail on The Spoon. Weather reports 56 as a high, winds NE at 10-15 mph. Just absolute HEAVEN!!!!!

yes, yes, yes... now that we have most of our power restored here in Connecticut I figure late fall sailing is back in the picture.

So as long as everyone's throwing numbers around...Long Island Sound tomorrow air temp 42'F, water temp 57'F, wind NNW @ ~10 kts, waves <1 foot, other traffic on the water - near 0 (only the ferries in & out of New London), layers of clothing - 3 to 4 depending on how my old bones react.

Could be the last for the season as I stop when the water temp goes <50'F.
For you southern folk it's called H Y P O T H E R M I A, not hyper--thermia!
:)

Thats where my topping lift line is cleated off. It exits the boom, is routed to a block at the base of the mast, to another block to be lead aft to the cleat. Is this not how all are set up? I can take a pic(s) of the set up this weekend, and post.

Although I am thinking of routing it out the other side of the boom, as I want to change my reefing setup, so its more like jiffy reefing, and can be done w/o leaving the cockpit. I will let you know how that goes when I work it out.

On mine, the topping lift is a SS wire from the masthead to a snapshackle hooked to the clew of the boom. It has a 1/4" double braid lanyard 'keeper' tied to the aft stay and with the snapshackle hooked as well to the stay, holds all in place when not in use. See the attached pix.

Very End

Those days living and working on LI and keeping the boat in the water until Thanksgiving and one year had to put heat in the engine cpmpartment to winterize.
My boat is on the hard until I hope the end of Nov and would love to go sailing for thanksgiving but it depends on how my shoulder is doing,I don't want to go too soon and screw it up so now retired and living in warmer climate I'll be sailing all I want in just a few months every week, but thanks for the offer.

That's beautiful. I've never seen sand so white! Cool looking dune buggy too! Down here we run on 4 wheels instead of two water skis on the front.

:D

When they glow makes night fishing easer and they can be used as anchor lights.
