Any suggestions on where to mount a good sized flag, with wooden staff, on the stern of a Hunter 26? I am unhappy with my choice and wonder if others might have a suggestion. I think sailing with a flag adds class! Ned Christensen Second Wind Edmonds, WA

On My 23.5

I found a staff that mounts on the rail across the middle of the transom. I cannot remember if the 26 has a similar rail but it works out perfectly on mine.

Flag

I ran a line from my bow sprit to the top of the mast forward of the forstay for flags.

walking staff

I used a wooden walking staff(boy scout)varnished it and put a pvc socket(from plumbing store) on end so it would fit in crutch slot on transom-works ok and will hold large flags

Use your mast crutch. I drilled two holes in my mast crutch, one near the top and a second one the distance down equal to the height of the flag. I inserted 3/16" X 2" eye bolts, to which I ring-clipped the grommets in the flag. It you want it to extend higher, pick up a 5-foot length of 1" Schedule 40 PVC pipe. Pry off the plastic cap on the top of the crutch and slip the PVC pipe (with eyebolts installed) into the top of the crutch. Both ways works nicely for me. Dale Wile Sandpoint, Idaho

fishing rod holder

I used a fishing rod holder that I purchased at West Marine.. mounted on the stern rail on our hunter 40.. we use a wooden flag pole with a large flag.. i may have had to widdle a little on the pole to get it to slip into the holder..
