I'm persuing a similar venture. I bought an older electric trolling motor, 109# thrust, intended for fishing, for my hunter 23. For this year I'm going to keep my nissan outboard and see how it goes, but if everything works well, I'm going to run with just the outboard and a small honda genset. So long as you don't do any really long range motoring (canals or whatever) you don't even need the genset.
Depending on the size of your boat, this is actually really economical too.
