Have you ever put into a marina as a transient and found that everything goes wrong? I'm in the middle of a mini-extended cruise and laid over at a marina for 2 weeks to visit family, etc. I am normally a very good "marina neighbor" but beginning with my arrival here it's been one bad thing after another. I just want to crawl into a hole and hide until it's time to go home.First, on arrival, I did the worst job ever of trying to back into the slip. I got blown sideways by the wind, etc. Several of the "locals" (more later) came to help. In the process of doing so, however, they were shouting so many conflicting instructions, and not letting me speak, that it just made things worse. I couldn't hear the dockmaster who should have been in charge. Let's say some cross words were exchanged, my boat has a crease, and I was not the most popular guy on the dock. Bad start. The previous day I docked at another marina in a near gale wind and got a "great job" from the dockmaster. Go figure. As for the "locals" there seem to be 2 groups: one, the uppties who have fancy trawlers and only speak to themselves, and the other is the "old salts" who are true *##$@!#@. They were the ones helping above, and now just seem to stare at me like I'm an idiot whenever we see each other. One seems to mumble insults whenever I walk by. Another sits on his aft deck and stares at me whenever I'm outside. No kidding. Ok, so I think I can stick it out and move on. I'll be the bigger person, right? And, there aren't many options here for dockage. Then, there was another episode as I was trying to adjust my lines. The wind was up and we were having a hard time, although it was under control. But it provided a lot of entertainment for the "old salts" who just stood there and watched. Last night my a/c kept shutting down and it's real hot here. Finally figured that problem out. Now, this morning, one of the "locals" who actually speaks to me told me that my holding tank is smelling and the "pier" wants me to dump it asap. Oh geez.I had not noticed any smell and I think it must the be new treatment I tried that isn't working (gulp, it's KO!) I dump regularly and have been using the marina facilites since arriving, so I didn't forsee any problems. I was truly mortified because, as I said, I try to be a good marina neighbor. I wasn't trying to gas them out although they deserve it. Hey, I've been boating most of my life so these problems shouldn't be happening to me. It's the other guys who look like idiots, not me.Oh well, thanks for letting me whine. It's just time to go cruising again.
