Got this 1975 6 HP Johnson with my boat and I'm rebuilding the lower. It was in pretty bad shape. I had to scrape it down to bare metal with a wire brush, Dremel tool and wire wheel for a drill. Then I cleaned it in a parts washer and sprayed it with brake cleaner. Wiped it with acetone and taped off some areas. Used zinc chromate primer and its drying now. Tomorrow I'll spray it with filler primer sand and spray with enamel.
I pressed out all the old seals and discarded all the o-rings.
I saw online to use 3M 847 but I can't find that here and the one place I did they said it was $70 for a small tube lol. I also can't find the boat armour sealer 1000. The best thing I could find is permatex Ultra Copper. Superior adhesion and resistance to oil (according to the package lol).
Any other recommendations for sealer?
I have some questions about where to use which sealer when re-installing the water pump. I'll post those when I get that
