Hope this is of some help
I have seen and dealt with just about all the problems with dirt that you can imagine, as part of my continual testing and striving for "perfection". I also send out 3 e-mails during the first year asking for feedback on our products. The problems have only seen, of course, with the resin/wax based fiberglass sealants, The Cleansers and spray on sealants have been perfected since many years, although this did not happen overnight.1. Our new Mirror Hard Superglaze. This can be used directly over NEW gelcoat and paint , metal spars, cleats etc It can also be used to and also over the top of silkenseal of semi-rigid vinyl (vents, fender tops etc to seal. It goes on VERY thin, and the latest "hot resin" version with optional catalyst sets up quickly. Dirt accumulation or black streaks have not been a problem- the opposite, dirt and bird droppings rinse off easily. 2. Simply Brilliant Superwax. Several of the "major" chemical manufacturers have been working on a simple "wipe on" wax. So far Island Girl is the only company that has introduced this.We introduced the product in 1999 (Sail Expo) as an emulsion.Peole really liked it but it had shelf life problems, so I completely reformulated the product based purely on a special mix of resins but still using a synthetic wax base. The product was developed here in Hawaii, tested on my boat that was just next to Honolulu airport. I soon learned that putting the stuff on thick gave a great shine with little work but was a soot magnet. I modified the instructions to stress THIN application and over the past 3 years improved it so that oit now sets up really fast, especially with the new catalyst that als prevents "soaking in" problems on very porous gelcoat. However, unlike the water based acrylics (Newglass, p.glow etc) only a 2, maybe 3 coats are need for mirror shine that dulls and is maintained as a really high quality "wax-like" shine. This product (and step by step instructions) are near perfection now! However, unlikethe glaze it goes on a bit thicker (for filling scratches, pits etc) and does contain a wax. ALL waxes are susceptible to "black streaks" because (you will remember form high school) a wax is just a very hard fat. ry dipping candle into some old engine oil and you will see what I mean. Our Mirror Hard Superglaze (some provided in all our kits) can be used to provide a stain-proof layer over the Superwax, but Silkenseal (sued for routine shine touch up) also protects. If really a problem, use our Cleaners, or even some of the glaze as a cleaner/sealer.3. The non-skid sealant. As originally formulated and tested (on my own boat and in a "beta testing" group from this site) it was for old gelcoat non-skid. If put on too thick (really ap problem on NEW nonskid or paint-based non-skid) , particularl in coooler weather and in dirty conditions dirt imbedding will occur. It is fixed by our cleaners and reapplication. All of these resin-based products can be competely stripped by Xylene. Becuase of this, I have altered the instructions to stress THIN application (see remarks by Terry Hudsomn in ask al sailors), even water dilution. But even better, I have reformulated as a thinner (based on Mirror Hard Superglaze) formulation that cannot be put on anything BUT THIN and teh catalyst takes care of any slow setting. Customers with newer boats who have replaced the sealant with this new version are very satisfied. BTW on nsnow-white non-skid, you might just be use the Sea glow and then scrub off the excess, if you do not want to use any sealant at all.Hope this answers your questions - I am aiming for 100% plus customer satisfaction with ALL our products but can only attempt this with prompt, ideally confidential, feedback. (No sales, no money, no improvement, no benefit to boaters. Thanks for the question- how about some on vinyl, inflatables, clear plastics, cleaning up 5200 and all the other thingss that our little "system" of products can do!Jim WPS movies and pics interactive instruction flow charts etc to follow!
