I am interesting in jiffy reefing. I read the last posts and wonder if anyone has photos or diagrams. My '79 30ft has a slide for adjusting the boom height. Good news, bad news. When the boom is down, sail misses topping lift and backstay but reef doesn't work. It may take another ten years to work thru all the little details and projects.

Also called "slab reefing"

Jiffy reefing is a term for leading a line from the leech reefing cringle through or alongside the end of the boom, to a winch, or sometimes just a cleat. Depends on the loads involved. When reefing, the halyard is lowered until the crew at the mast can attach the luff cringle into a hook on the boom or mast. Then, the aforementioned line is tightened until the leech cringle is against the mast. The halyard is then retensioned and the boat now has less sail.
