Hi,
I finally ran the lines back to the cockpit. It is probably the 2nd or 3rd best thing we've done to date. However, I have a small issue. With the jiffy reefing installation, the clew lines run up one side of the sail, down the other, forward through cheek blocks attached to the boom, through a double block at the front of the boom, down to another double block attached to the mast step, then aft through a deck organizer and to the cam. The problem is that the lines tend to sag between the aft end of the boom where they run through the cheek block and the forward end of the boom where they pass through the double block. Although it is not a major issue for me, I am a bit concerned about my first mate potentially hanging herself.
What have people done to correct this? I'm thinking about adding a couple mid-boom block at 1/3 and 2/3 the distance from the mast to the end of the boom. Are there any other ideas that won't add a ton of friction?
I'll post photos soon of the setup. We are very happy with it so far. We were able to raise the main sail about 80% without using the winch with minimal friction. It actually looks quite seaman-like.
