HI, I have an 87 hunter 23 and have a question about attaching the tack of the jib. I could not find anyplace to attach the jib shackle to on the bow or in the anchor well of my boat. Some i talked to who had an 86 at one point thought their was a place in the anchor well to do it behind the metal bracket for the forstay and the anchor. I just bought this point last year, so I am not sure if I am missing something. Thanks

Tack Penant

You must be missing something if you have already looked in the anchor locker. There should be a tack penant attached just aft of the forestay chain plate. It is made out of 5/32" cable. It should be just long enough to come up through the hatch doors on your locker with a "D" shackle on the end for attaching to the tack of your jib. I'm not sure of the exact length without running out to my H23 and measuring it. I might be able to get out to the boat tomorrow but as it is Mother's Day I might not risk it.

Bottom of anchor well

Have you taken out your anchor tackle? My tackle, on an '87 h23, is attached at the floor of the anchor well. Don't remember exactly how, but it's not attached to the chain plate. Mac

Thanks !!

Thanks Mac and Steve. I will take a clser look tomorrow. It looks like the anchor is secured to the forestay plate where the tack pennant is in the diagram. either way, it helps me get started. Thanks again

Ok.. maybe my mistake..

It looks like my anchor is attached ot the tack pennant. However, the only remnaining place to tie off the anchor is to the cleat in the side of anchor well (which may be fine). Nothing in the bottom of the anchor well. Worst case is I make the swap, I hardly ever use the anchor anyway and I would much rather have a place to tie my jib off to. Thanks for everyones help !

Anchor Cleat

The anchor cleat is the only place you have to tie off your rode. It's awkward, especially if you try to deploy your anchor without unhanking your head sail. I tried that the first time out and it's not a good plan as it turned out. The locker doors and the head sail, not to mention the life lines and pulpit, were in the way and plenty frustrating. I've been considering a furling unit or at least a jib bag so I can at least get the head sail out of my way. Anyhow, while you are messing around up front. Check your anchor locker drain to make sure she doesn't leak.
