I need to replace the lines for the jib sheet on my 1982 Hunter 33. The current lines are way over sized for inland lakes at 5/8". What size do most of you have on yours? Would 3/8 or 10mm be strong enough? It is a 110% Jib.

I would think 3/8" is typically strong enough on an inland lake, but 7/16 "or 1/2" Trophy Braid would be better on your hands and hold well on the winches.

Compromise

Jib/genoa sheets are always a compromise between hand comfort and lightness. A lighter sheet keeps the jib flying in light air by not pulling the sail down from excess sheet weight. The problem as already noted is the light sheets are hard to pull by hand and sometimes slip on the winch. Light sheets are normally strong enough for the task. It is the comfort factor that makes sailors increase the diameter of a sheet more than strength.
