Jib sheet cars

Hi, I have two sets of cars on my 1988 Capri 22 - one set right in front of the cockpit winches, and one set on the cabin top. I've normally rigged the furling jib inside the shrouds to the cabin-top cars, then to the cars in front of the winch.

This setup seems to make it hard to flatten out the jib when close hauled as it's hard to pull the jib back far enough if the car is forward, and the sheet will rub on the inside of the shrouds if the car is too far back. Should I be skipping the cabin-top cars in some scenarios and running the jib sheets outside the shrouds?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Matt -

Any overlapping headsail (likely your roller furling sail is a 135% overlap genoa) should sheet directly to tracks on the side decks, outside of the shrouds. You will never be able to sheet a sail like this to the inner tracks. The sail should be sheeted thru one set of jib cars only.

The tracks/cars on the cabin top are used for sheeting a smaller jib.
