Jib sail attachment?

The previous owner of my boat had the Jib attached at the base of the forestay. As a result the jib is constantly fouled on the bow pulpit. Do most folks attache the sail to a line that will get the foot of the sail above the pulpit? It appears that there is plenty of room to raise the sail another couple of feet up the forestay. . . .please advise . . .

Re-Design!

The real classic was the picture in the Hunter brochure for the H23.5 that had the jib fouled on the bow pulpit. And that's the way we usually sail it too. I've put some line at the base to raise it and it does keep it free but I don't like the way it acts in stiff breeze. It's putting too much pull up high. The H240 does seem to have it raised but my sail maker insists that the sail should be cut different. The sailmaker is probably right because my storm jib certainly doesn't get fouled. It's nice to know that someone else still hanks on the jib. Now what about the main sail rubbing on the spreaders? Ken S/V Wouff Hong

Getting your jib up...

I always attach my jib to short wire extension I had rigged to raise it up just enough over the pulpit without affecting performance much. When approaching, or in a busy harbor, where I want more visibility under the jib, I attach it to a longer line with a carabinier at the end of it, and hoist up a bit more. In strong winds I switch to my 90, which is cut higher, and I do not have to worry about putting too much top pressure on the rig with the larger headsails having being raised higher on the headstay.
