Jib pendant.

I saw the other thread on moving the job forward but I don't want to derail it.

I want to raise my jib foot about 2'. I would rather the jib were up and closer to the halyard block. I have about 2'.

Anyway, when I do this. What would the pendant look like. I assume it will connect to the forward chain plate but will also hank onto the forestay at the point the sail does? Would a short cable do?

Also if I do this, the angle of my sheets to the stock fairleads may cause more pull downward on the jib leaving the foot shape wrong. I don't have a track and cars for my jib sheets.

my PO raised the tack point on the jib.

I'll look for a pic, but its a cable about foot long, with a ss plate with 3 holes, 1 top and 2 bottom. the plate is a triangle and the tack shackle attaches to the bottom of the triangle.

You can use almost anything on a boat/sail your size. I'd recommend a short length of dyneema with eye loops spliced into the ends. That takes just a few minutes with single braid. Of your can just tie knots. It would run from the tack of the sail to the place you normally attach it.

Yes it will effect your jib sheeting as the angle to the clew will change. Normally pendants are placed at the top for this (and other) reasons.

For my "short" sails, I use a length of line (same type as halyard, you're holding th the top with the same line anyways)long enough to get the foot of the sail above the pulpit. Tie it to the sail (with a bowline) and put a bowline loop at the other end, which attaches to my tack shackle. Simple and inexpensive. Also, the line is extra long so I can change the length simply by retying the bowline.

Ill have to dig my jib out and hoist it up and see how this will work. Sounds like a plan to me.

How's this for cleaning out the recycle bin?

A small bit of chain and shackle will let you try for size and effect and when you find out what works best for you just make up a cable.

I was letting my dogs out tonight when I was reading this. I made a rope one today. This puts the top of the sail about 3" from the halyard block stretched.

Sorry for the image quality it's 11:30 pm when I took it.

I know you're thinking. "What in the wide, wide world of sports is this crap with two forestays"?

It's just an experiment but my shrouds and rear stay are masthead so is the upper forestay. The jib was sized for a traditional Mac fractional which is where the lower stay goes.

Oh! I filled out my sippy cup entry form today!
