I'm a new 380 (1999 Model) owner and am wild about my boat. However...... Invite comments on the Jib Haulyard Stopper on the Mast. Seems like overkill since there is already a stopper in the cockpit. Twice, the jib fouled on the darn thing during high-wind starboard to port tack. Personally, don't see a need for this jib grabber. Perhaps manufacturer designers have a comment.

seldon?

I'm guessing you have a seldon mast? I took the mast-mounted rope clutch off mine (on a 410) and gave it to a friend who needed it on his Tayana 48. My buddy with the 380 took his off and gave it to a friend with a Moody 41. You're right, they're more hassle than they're worth, snagging the clew, but they make great gifts for those who need to go forward to reef.

Same Issue on My 380!

Bruce Come to think of it, I've had the same problem a few times on my new 380. I presumed the reason the stopper was there was to keep people from accidentally releasing the jib halyard from the cockpit. That doesn't pass the acid test, however, as they don't have the same set-up for the main halyard. Think I'll remove mine this weekend. Otherwise, I'm in love with the boat. She points incredbly well and really handles the light winds as well as the big winds. I've found a small leak in the starboard transom which shows itself while heeling. Best of luck.
