I have a 73 oday 22.The jib halyard does NOT simply go around the winch on the mast on my boat. There is this 'block' with two pulleys and a "v" slot so that the halyard can be "slotted off" in different positions. Is this normal? All this arangement seems to do is get in the way.I sail single handed, and I have a simple jib down haul, but this "block arangement " keeps getting in the way and not letting the jib come down as fast as I wish.Isnt the correct way to just go to the main winch, and be done with it? your boat

do it any way you want to, as long as it works. some ways may hold air in the sail better by using the sliding block to adjust the sheet angle, but bottom line, what works for you will do, you can always change your mind later...

Single Handed Rigging!

I have the same arrangement for both the Jib and the main halyards. I do mostly single handed sailing so I have to be able to remain in the cockpit most of the time. I will take some pictures tomorrow, and I will post it to you so you can see what I mean! Paul
