Looking for suggestions on "cruising" the Jersey Shore in our 27' Hunter. We will be heading south from Toms River the week of 7/1/01. This will be our first cruise in our boat, and looking for suggestions on good marinas, fun spots to dock, and restaurants. We are considering bringing our bikes on board to just help us get around. We look forward to any experiences you could share with us. Thanks

I can't speak for Long Beach Island, but Somers Point is very nice. There are a lot of Marinas in the back bay that would probably do nicely. There's also a sailboat only marina inside the bridges, at the entrance to the Great Egg Harbor River. If you have the local maps, it's across from the Beesley's Point power station. Somers Point has some great restaurants, but no activities, really. Ocean City, on the other hand, is great. Lots of things to do, Bed & Breakfast places, restaurants. The Amusement Area is fun, also. Have fun!!

There's a great marina with good faculities on the southern portion of Long Beach Island in Beach Haven, I think. Its near the amusment park and I think its called Shelter Harbor. I can't remember the name for sure, but we sayed there for the weekend two years ago. Very close to shops, resturants, beach and the amusment park. Sorry I can't help you more. Where in Toms River do you live? I used to live off Fischer Blvd in Snug Harbor, graduated from TRHS North in '79.

If you are going ICW to Atlantic City you can stop at Morrison's in Beach Haven. Very near to shops and food. You might want to anchor out in Atlantic City and dinghy in, since Truimp's is charging $4.00 per foot!! I see sailboats anchoring just before the Brigantine bridge on the left. Another anchorage is just past Harrah's on the left, however there can be a lot of current. Maybe it's best to just take a slip at Trump's for a night and HOPE you can win it back at the casino (ha, ha). You will have to go "outside" from A.C. down. If you can visit Cape May do so. You may be able to get a slip or bulkhead during the week at So. Jersey marina in Schelesinger's (Sp?) creek-a very nice marine by the lobster house, or Utche's Marina (also by the lobster house). Utche's has made considerable improvements during the past couple of years. Cape May has great beaches, fabulous Victorian homes and great resturants, and you are a short taxi ride from the amusements at Wildwood. Have a great time, PAT
