I have a question on the construction of the 25's transom circa 1970's. I have an inboard 25 1976 that has a non-operational inboard diesel. I will be hanging a kicker on the back for the season as I will be unable to repair the inboard this summer. Looking at the transom inside there is a square bulge in the center of the transom. I'm wondering if this transom has already been reinforced to take an outboard motor even though it was inboard built. Can anyone with an outboard 25 describe the inside of your transom? I will most likely reinforce it with a layer of cloth and glass then place a board across it however, I would appreciated any feedback as to the configuration of your boat. JCII, please help!

I have a 1981 25 with outboard. It does mount right in the center of the transome. I will take a look inside in the morning to see if I see this bulge. I would think only one hull was made and has the reinforcement for the outboard. I think you will just need about 6 bolts and mounting plate for the outboard. I think it has large washers on the inside but will give you details tomorrow.

Hung a 4 stroke on my transom last year and was concerned about the extra weight. When I drilled the holes for the new bracket I found 1" marine plywood with minimum 3/8" glass on either side. Plenty beef. I used a 1/4" aluminum plate as a backer because I had already made it (I'm into overkill), but if you're hanging a two stroke, not to worry. Regards, Jim

Ive had a 76 25 with a Honda 9.9 on it for 4 seasons. Backed it up with aluminum bar stock, no problem. I do worry a bit about the capacity of the bracket, those 4 cycle are pretty heavy.

Checked mine out and I do see the built up area which seems to run from top to bottom. My engine bracket is attached with four bolts with 2 to 2 1/2 inch washers as backing. The bracket start about 2-3 inches from the bottom of the stern and is about a foot in length. Above the mounting is the backstay mounting which is a long tang with 3 bolts attached the same way the outboard bracket is attached. You should have no problem attaching an outboard bracket to yours.
