Recently acquired a 14' javelin that I am trying to resurrect from the dead... My primary concern is that the pole is not the original. The mast and stays seem to be the correct length but one stay needs replaced. I figure I might as well do all three to be on the safe side. Here is how they are attached to the mast currently.

Any suggestions for the new cables?? This setup doesn't seem to be the best option... The forestay is a turnbuckle style end on the bow attachment part and the sides are fixed length...currently.

My next question is how to improve this setup to facilitate easier lifting of the 50lb galvanized centerboard....

I appreciate the input all!!

Well, that setup for the standing rigging is just so wrong it isn't funny. The ends of the rigging should have forked eyes, not the eyes shown, the forked eyes should connect to tangs on the mast, not be pop-rivetted directly to the mast. I'll post a few pics below showing the proper setup, unfortunately.... they don't show it as well as I'd like (I'll keep loolking for better pics!) If this was about 2-3 weeks ago, I'd just take a pic of my DS II mast, the rigging setup of this part of the mast will basically look excatly the same on my Day Sailer as it should on your Javelin (actually, except for being smaller, a pic of my old Widgeon would match).

The CB setup is missing the "winch" See other pics below.

Any ideas where I can pick up a used winch for a reasonable cost?? Is it acceptable to use ss rivets to attach the tangs?

Also, is it necessary to add spreader bars to the mast as there are none on there currently...

My mast (OEM) has the tangs pop-riveted on using stainless-steel rivets.

You might find a used CB winch from the Javelin Ownrs Association, or a source for a replacement. Or you may want to just adapt what you have to gain more purchase. I'll post a drawing of what the newer boats have, it may give some ideas?

Installing spreaders is a good question........ I think you can get away without them, I'll see if I have any info on what the Javelin had in the 1960's.... that will be a clue as to whether they are needed. O'DAY used 2 different setups on the small boats.
