I recently purchased an O'Day Javelin. The centerboard looks like it might have been galvanized at one time (up toward the pin area) but is now rusted, but not severly, where isn't coated with a thick layer of anti fouling paint. I thought of stripping it and coating it with a phosphoric acid based rust "converter" and then painting with anti fouling paint. Any ideas from the experienced?

Good plan but you need one more step

Cliff - It would be a good idea to remove the rust, which entails removing the paint. After you have the paint off, however, prime the board with a metal primer, then paint with an epoxy primer, then bottom paint. You will get a much stronger encapsulation and you will keep the rust at bay longer. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
