Javelin Centerboard cable snapped...

My Javelin is from about 1982...

I am just curious how to even access the centerboard from the cockpit... the housing is seamless fiberglass (no "caps" like I read about elsewhere, perhaps on older models..), and I can't find any drawings online which illustrate the centerboard mechanism.

Seems like i need to take it to a boatyard, eh?

Well, if you can get the boat off the trailer partway ,with the stern supported off the ground.....you might be able to avoid the boatyard. There is no access from above, even on older Javelins, all have one-piece CB trunks. The CB will need to be lowered enough to expose the pendant attachment point, and a new cable attached. You could call Rudy at D&R Marine for advice (508) 644-3001, he will have the cable in stock. I'm not sure how long the cable is, but Rudy will know!

The pictures of a Javelin below are an older model (1969) but do show a way to access the CB you might be able to take the boat off the trailer and roll her on her side as another way to access the CB.

I have a 1978 javelin which may be similar. The centerboard just rides one pin and has a metal cable through the hull connecting to the end. I thought I had to replace mine when I overhauled the boat last year, but didn't. How I got to it was as suggested, lifted it off the trailer and rolled it on its side, held by a couple of well placed saw horses. I could then filly extend the centerboard as needed, with access to the inside of the boat as well. The boat is heavy, but two able young men were all that was needed to,get it off and on the trailer.
