My husband and I just picked up a Javelin and we are reading up on it - can anyone tell me about installing a boom vang? Our does not have one, but some of the reading suggests that they can be installed and we see that you can purchase boom vang kits...Is this easy/hard? Recommended?

Boom vang

Meg, The best thing to do is to check the make of the boom and mast. If it's made by Dwyer, then go on the Dwyer web site and check out the fittings for the boom vang. You may already have one on your boom, and need one for your mast. It really depends on what kind of boom vang kit that you buy. Some booms have a small bail which is riveted in place about 1/3 of the way from the goose neck. Some vangs have a wire with a ball at the end that fits into a special plate on the boom to receive it. The mast usually has a large bale that can be installed. You may want to talk to someone who knows the inside and out of these boats, like Rudy Nickerson. I'm sure that he could set you up with everything that you need and give you the needed advice on how to install it. I'm giving you his link. Give him a call. He and Debbie are very nice to talk to. Good luck! Joe

Yes! I talked to Rudy the other day! I ordered new parts from him...Yes, wonderful guy. Ok, so I will give him a shout today...Thus far there is no "spot" on the boom for a boom vang, whick leads me to believe that I may just have to order the "kit" and drill into our existing boom...Again, I will consult with Rudy and anyone else that I can solicite advise from before I do anything. THANKS VERY MUCH!
